Yesterday, 27 residents gathered at Hamilton South Hall for the first official Listening Session of the Hamilton South Tenants Alliance (HSTA), a powerful step forward in tenant-led organising.
Neighbours shared honest stories about safety, maintenance issues, raising families, and the daily realities of life in Hamilton South. Rather than being spoken for, residents spoke for themselves, identifying clear priorities they want decision-makers to take seriously.
The session also focused on the future of the Hall, with tenants naming the kinds of services, activities, and supports that would genuinely strengthen the community. Through discussion and voting, common ground began to emerge.
The HCA is proud to stand alongside HSTA as residents build the skills, relationships, and collective voice needed to negotiate for real change. Community organising works best when it is led by the people most affected — and yesterday showed that Hamilton South tenants are ready to lead. This is only the beginning!
The foundations training program is an introduction to community organising.

The National Training (6-Day) is a residential program for people committed to understanding the craft of community organising - who want to play a key role in leading the activities of the Alliance inside their organisation and acting as a bridge between our member organisations.
The residential course builds a close community of leaders across participating civil society organisations that represent the diversity of our Alliances in NSW, Queensland, Victoria and Aotearoa-New Zealand. This training is also open to those seeding new Alliances across Australia.
Leaders are equipped with the tools they need to be more strategic and effective and to build and strengthen their organisations in the process. The course focuses on power, organisations, relationships and leadership.

Attended a Foundations Training (2-days, see above)
Endorsed by an Alliance partner organisation or organiser (non-partner cost available)
